Our favourite storage solutions
Our top picks of joinery storage solutions
While we all strive for bigger and better homes, designing integrated storage solutions for items like your small appliances, cleaning products and laundry is a practical way to improve the aesthetics of your home and reduce clutter without necessarily increasing the footprint of your home.
Storage is a key element of our designs, offering functionality and convenience for our clients and a big part of our design process involves researching and sourcing integrated storage solutions. Here we’re sharing our top picks with you from the best suppliers in the industry.
The laundry and pantry at Mosman House Three
Laundry storage: streamlining an everyday task
The laundry, while often a utilitarian space, is an area of our client’s homes that we put a huge amount of thought and design into. Clever adjacency planning and storage solutions helps keep the laundry an efficient and organised space, turning a mundane chore into a streamlined process.
Ironing boards: For clients that don’t use a freestanding ironing board, a fold-out ironing board integrated into a cabinet or closet can save both space and time. When not in use, it’s hidden away, preserving the elegance of our designs. Alternatively, we design a suitable tall space for a freestanding ironing board and an easy access power outlet to plug in the iron.
Laundry hampers: A traditional laundry basket can be unsightly and take up valuable floor space, so we encourage our clients to choose integrated laundry hamper units with removable baskets. There are lots of these hampers available on the market and we like to specify units from Hafele, like the Hailo and Hideaway units below.
Kitchen storage: behind the cupboards
The kitchen is our favourite room to design storage solutions in because our clients often have unique requests. A well-organised kitchen makes cooking and entertaining so much more enjoyable and that’s what we strive for on every project. Here are our favourite solutions:
Waste management: We ask all our clients about their local recycling collections and design a couple of different bin systems in their kitchen; normally one large capacity unit for garbage and another unit for recycling. We love the colour-coded lids for recycling bins from Hafele.
Under sink organisers for cleaning products: Under the sink can be a hard-to-reach and messy area, so we include these integrated pull-out racks from Nover in our designs. They have perfectly sized pockets for storing cloths, brushes and tall cleaning products.
Deep drawers: Rather than standard base cabinets with doors we like to design a lot of deep drawers to offer our clients easy access to items at the back of a cabinet. Blum offers a fantastic range of drawer runner systems with soft close function and the softest drawer glides on the market.
Kick board drawers: Another fantastic storage solution offered by Blum is their SpaceStep kick board drawers and step. Offering valuable storage for baking trays, chopping boards and less-used items, plus a handy step to reach overhead cupboards, clients have loved each time we’ve designed these in their kitchen.
Pantry: order in the chaos
Blum SpaceTower pantry: Pull-out shelves or drawers are a game-changer when it comes to pantry storage. Blum’s product offering make it easy to access items hidden at the back of a deep cabinet or pantry space. We love that we can choose different styles of drawers, including a design that has clear panels on the front and side so you can see your pantry items more clearly. Blum’s inner dividing systems keep things tidy and ensure that items don’t tip.
Whether it’s a pull-out pantry for easy food access or a built-in laundry hamper for a mess-free bathroom, custom joinery designs can make a world of difference to your lifestyle and how you enjoy your home. Designing practical homes with modest luxuries is our passion, and knowing the best products on the industry to suit your requirements is part of our design service and know-how.
